Ally Club: Mission Statement: Promoting a safe environment at our school and in our community where we accept and embrace everyone’s cultures, empathetic beliefs, and ways of being. We strive to promote a safe, non-judgmental space where all feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Ecology Club: Haviland's Ecology Club strives to bring awareness to our school about how our actions can impact our planet. We have started many programs like recycling magic markers, getting rid of paper lunch menus, and starting a pollinator garden to name a few. We learn how to make environmentally-friendly cleaning products to reduce the number of toxins in our products and reduce plastic waste of other products we consume. We have participated in the YESS! international conference for the past 2 years. We also partnered with students from Spackenkill and educators from Vassar Cooperative Extension. We hope to continue working with other environmental activist groups in our mission to make our Haviland community more environmentally responsible. Ecology club meets two Thursdays a month.

Maker Club: Maker Club, simply put, is a club where we "make" things. What we make can be different from year-to-year, depending on what the club members are most interested in doing. In the past, we have coded simple video games, made cardboard seats that don't collapse, had contests to build the tallest Lego tower, and made soccer balls, bouncy balls, and jump ropes out of nothing but rubber bands!
What will we make this year? That will be up to YOU!

Ski & Ride Club: is for students to learn a new life long outdoor Winter sport. Beginners must take 2 lessons on the first two Ski trips which take place on the first two January weekends(Friday evenings or Saturday day trip). Those students that are already participating in this winter sport can join to improve their skills and to have a great outdoor adventure with their classmates. We aim for 5 Ski trips in January and February.
We consider this a wonderful family Winter sport and encourage parents and siblings not at Haviland to join us. We can offer lift tickets & lessons at our club discount. Also if room allows a ride to the mountain on the bus with our club or the other family members can car pool and meet us in the lodge for this great family Winter Adventure.

Yearbook Club: The HMS Yearbook Club records and publishes a chronicle of the school year which is presented in the Haviland Middle School annual yearbook. Our mission is to produce an accurate and original publication that embodies Haviland’s “Rise Above” spirit through pictures, excerpts, quotes, and more. We also work to represent the differing interests of the student body and highlight school activities throughout the year, being respectful of all members of the school community without bias. We work to create a Yearbook that the entire student body will be proud to be included in. Come join us and help capture Haviland’s history in the making!

Gaming Club:
Do you like to play games? Are you into chess or checkers or even Dungeons and Dragons? Maybe you are more simple and you like group board games. Some of our student favorites have included Codenames, Heads Up, Exploding Kittens, and regular old problem-solving puzzles. We would love for you to come and check out how we work "cooperatively" to communicate and have fun! We've even been known to play card games such as Pokemon and Yuh-gi-oh!!
Game Club will meet every other Wednesday - 2x a month

Creative Writing Club: Creative Writing Club welcomes students from all grade levels, 6-8, to join in on the fun of expressing thoughts, ideas, and emotion through writing. They say everyone has a story to tell, so why not tell yours! Creative Writing Club offers a chance for students to express their own original thoughts and ideas through a multitude of writing forms and styles. Students will also learn writing skills and strategies to help spark their creativity, engage readers, and refine their work.

Cooking Club: During the after-school cooking club students will have the opportunity to prepare simple recipes and participate in food science experiments. Students will get a chance to take on all roles within the kitchen, have fun and work together. Some of the recipes we might prepare include pizzas, cupcake wars, pickling veggies from the school garden, science of gummy bears, after-school snacks and healthy breakfasts! Students can take everything they prepare home.

Bowling Club: The Bowling Club at HMS is an amazing way to have fun and meet new people! We meet on Fridays for 12 weeks, starting in November. Students stay after school and take a bus to Spins Bowl in Poughkeepsie. Students will need to be picked up by 5:15 from the bowling alley. There is a fee of $72 to participate. Students who hand in a club sheet showing interest in bowling will get a letter with more information. After that, the first 40 students to submit payment will be in the club.

Art Club: Art Club is a welcoming space, a place to create, decompress, play, and work alongside like-minded peers. There are no assigned projects. Instead, Art Club members are encouraged to take advantage of open studio time with guided mentorship and individualized instruction from Mrs. Jasmin. Art Club members unlock special materials that are not available during normal class instruction.
